COL Group is expanding its distribution ecosystem with a new vertical, COL AI Studios, intended as a development pathway for taking proven IP into animation, short-form and long-form series, advertising, branded entertainment, and live-action content.
COL Group currently houses more than 5,000 live-action titles. It will use COL AI Studios as a production and testing pipeline to expand that base, using AI tools to explore ideas, understand audience response, and build confidence in a concept before committing to larger-scale production. COL AI Studios is also expanding into branded AI entertainment.
The company has already seen gains using its AI tools; Love Missions Across the Galaxy has become a three-season franchise, localized in more than 10 languages. Several AI-native titles are also progressing into live-action development.
“AI is ultimately another way of delivering a story,” said Timothy Oh, GM of COL Group International. “It can help creators and platforms understand how a concept performs before making the larger commitment required for live action. But greater access to these tools does not automatically lead to better entertainment, so storytelling, creative direction, and responsible use of the technology still have to come first.”
Ray Tong, CEO of COL Group, added, “In China, AI-powered content is increasingly becoming part of mainstream storytelling, and we have had the opportunity to learn from that evolution first-hand. We now want to bring that experience to international platforms and brands, while recognizing that different markets will have different levels of receptiveness.”
