Created by Montreux Film and Fjernsyn, the comedy game-show format Nation’s Dumbest has expanded its European footprint with BBC Studios signing new deals in Hungary and Denmark.
Tv2 is on board for an eight-episode adaptation, produced by BBC Studios Denmark Productions. Already filmed, it airs later this year. RTL in Hungary has slated filming to begin on its version in the summer.
The concept has performed well in existing markets; in France, the version from BBC Studios France Productions on TF1 has become the top unscripted title of the year to date and the highest-rated new format launch in France since 2020; and it was the top entertainment launch of the year in Sweden, on TV4. It’s returning for a second run in Sweden and a third in its home market of Norway.
Sumi Connock, EVP for Global Creative Network and formats at BBC Studios, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with RTL Hungary and TV2 Denmark to bring Nation’s Dumbest to new audiences. It delivers big, playful entertainment but also has real warmth—giving viewers a chance to see celebrities at their most human. That balance is proving key to its growing international appeal.”
