Sphere Media alum Marlo Miazga has launched M Media, a new outfit in Canada for unscripted and scripted content, securing a commission from the CBC for a documentary based on her memoir, Ground Control: Losing My Child to Suicide.
Miazga secured a commission from Random House Canada last year for Ground Control, detailing the story of the loss of her teenage son, Mars, to suicide in 2020. An associated feature doc has been in development alongside the book, with production finance secured from Telefilm Canada’s Theatrical Documentary Program, Canada Media Fund’s (CMF) POV program and Rogers Documentary Fund. With the CBC commission, production is due to begin in October for a spring 2027 delivery following the book launch in January. Miazga penned the memoir with journalist Katrina Onstad.
Chase Joynt directs, with Miazga, Catalyst founder Julie Bristow, and Ryan Dias as EPs. Eyesteel Films will handle theatrical distribution in Canada. Worldwide rights are currently available.
