Disney Channel and Disney+ have slated Hidden Heroes: A Descendants Story, a new expansion of the hit franchise.
The music- and dance-filled film will spotlight the descendants of beloved sidekicks from Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Sleeping Beauty, and The Emperor’s New Groove. The film heads into production this week with a cast that includes Dior Goodjohn, Momona Tamada, Jacob Rodriguez, Eva Fossaceca Smedley, and Harry Jones. Jude Weng directs, with a script from Tamara Chestna, Eydie Faye, and Emma Fletcher. Mark Ordesky and Jane Fleming are executive producers, alongside Gary Marsh and Chestna. The movie is produced by Disney Kids & Family.
“One of the things that has always made Descendants so special is the way it invites audiences to experience familiar Disney stories through an entirely new perspective,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family. “With Hidden Heroes, we’re finally putting the sidekicks center stage, because they’ve always been an essential part of Disney’s greatest adventures. It’s a fun, surprising new chapter that expands the Descendants universe with all the music, dance and heart fans love and expect from the franchise.”
Descendants: Wicked Wonderland ranked as the number one movie on Disney+ globally last month and drove a 400% boost in viewing to the other four movies. The franchise launched in 2015.
