Nelvana alum Irene Weibel has joined Pixel Zoo Animation Studios as business development executive.
Working out of the Los Angeles office of the indie studio, based in Brisbane and owned by MGA Studios, Weibel will collaborate with Josh Fisher, head of development, to expand its U.S. presence and global reach. Her remit includes building relationships with U.S.-based studios, streamers, and production companies, driving partnerships for service work, co-productions, and digital-first content, leveraging Australia’s tax incentives. She will also support the Pixel Labs original content division via international co-productions.
She reports to Paul Gilette, Pixel Zoo CEO, and Sebastian Gonzalez, head of studio and EP.
Gonzalez said, “Irene brings strong relationships and a great understanding of the market, which will be instrumental in helping us grow our service work and also support our new original IP as we further expand into co-productions.”
Weibel, formerly head of studio at Nelvana, noted, “In this time of significant industry change and challenges, one thing remains constant—kids and kids at heart crave great animated content. I look forward to working with Paul, Seb, Josh, and the entire Pixel Zoo team to further build their animation slate and bring it to audiences around the globe.”
Weibel will continue to work with a short list of her current clients as she ramps up her role at Pixel Zoo.
