Speaking at Rio2C, Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere announced a $45 million investment into the city’s cultural and audiovisual sectors.
The Investment Plan for Culture and Audiovisual Production in Rio runs until 2028 and will encompass public policies, calls for proposals, and programs aimed at expanding access to funding. Cavaliere was joined by the Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Márcio Tavares, the Municipal Secretary of Culture, Lucas Padilha, and the president of Riofilme, Leonardo Edde.
“It is an investment that will allow hundreds of productions,” Cavaliere said. “This industry generates jobs, generates income, and, especially, makes Rio de Janeiro a relevant place in the world. The audiovisual industry is strategic for our country and places Brazil in a very prominent position. International productions have been looking to Rio de Janeiro to film here. It is an industry that needs to be encouraged, and we continue to grow with it, advancing and making Rio de Janeiro increasingly the audiovisual capital of Brazil and the world.”
The centerpiece is a new mechanism providing eight projects per cycle, with four cycles a year, with varying degrees of funding for a total investment of about $790,000. Investments will also be made in programs supporting training, research, and artistic creation processes, as well as efforts to strengthen cultural initiatives.
