Fuji’s Long Vacation Set for Remake in Hong Kong

Long Vacation, a prime-time drama that originally aired on Fuji Television in 1996, is getting its first international remake, courtesy of PCCW Media’s MakerVille for ViuTV in Hong Kong.

The drama was a hit for Fuji Television in 1996, with the finale scoring a peak rating of 36.7%. The Hong Kong remake stars Edan Lui (member of Hong Kong boy group MIRROR) and Ali Lee. The adaptation comes as ViuTV marks its tenth anniversary.

Eriko Kitagawa, who penned the original series, commented, “It’s a Japanese work from 30 years ago—times have changed. Back then, smartphones and the internet weren’t part of everyday life. Now, the setting will move from Japan to Hong Kong. This is a project I devoted myself to, writing the script day and night. The cast and crew brought it to life with equal dedication, and audiences across Japan embraced it wholeheartedly. I’m excited to see how it will be reimagined!”
