Japan’s The Seven Seals Partnership with Korean VFX Outfit

TBS Holdings-backed The Seven, producer of Alice in Borderland, has clinched a strategic pact with Korea’s M83 to develop a production framework for delivering high-quality VFX-led content from Asia.

M83 has worked on Korean titles such as Vincenzo and Sweet Home. It will collaborate with The Seven on planning, preproduction, and final compositing for VFX, as well as on R&D and global expansion.

Katsuaki Setoguchi, president and CEO of The Seven, commented, “To create content that truly excites audiences around the world, collaboration across borders is essential. We are delighted to form a partnership with M83, a top runner that has driven the evolution of Korea’s screen industry through technology. By combining M83’s outstanding VFX expertise with The Seven’s storytelling and production capabilities centered on VFX, I am confident we can deliver entertainment experiences the world has never seen before. We look forward to what lies ahead.”

Tomofumi Akahane, chief VFX officer at The Seven, added, “Through my work on numerous high-end productions, I have long held deep respect for the quality of M83’s creative output and their relentless pursuit of new technologies. Today, VFX is no longer the “final touch” of production—it is the foundation that supports a project from its core. By working closely with M83 from the pre-production stage onward, we can achieve both efficiency and explosive visual impact. I am truly excited to witness the creative chemistry between Japan and Korea.”

Sungjin Jung, CEO at M83, noted, “Japan’s content industry has established a globally trusted standard by combining proven IP competitiveness with decades of accumulated planning expertise, precision, and highly refined production systems. THE SEVEN is a studio that embodies these strengths in an innovative and sophisticated manner, and has consistently demonstrated its capabilities through the quality of its works. This partnership brings together companies with deep-rooted strengths from Japan and Korea, enabling us to connect our respective production philosophies and technologies at an even more advanced level. Going beyond simple collaboration, I believe this will significantly amplify synergy. Together with The Seven, we aim to demonstrate our true potential through results, and to create a new success model in which “Asia” stands strong in the global market.”
