MGM+ has ordered an adaptation of the first book in John Sandford’s Prey book series from MGM Television and Take 5 Productions.
Created by Bruce Terris, showrunner and EP, the eight-part Rules of Prey will star Jensen Ackles, who also serves as EP. Production begins in Toronto this month, with the series set to air on MGM+ in the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Germany, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, and Chile. Ackles stars as a former Minneapolis Police Department detective who is pulled back into law enforcement to investigate a series of murders.
“Jensen Ackles’ classic leading man charisma, combined with Bruce Terris’ skillful adaptation of John Sandford’s enduringly popular Prey series, is an excellent fit for MGM+,” said Michael Wright, global head of MGM+. “The series delves into the psychological depth and suspense that made Sandford’s novels unmissable reading and continues MGM+’s commitment to bringing classic Hollywood storytelling to modern audiences.”
Ackles is starring in the upcoming Prime Video series Vought Rising, reprising his role as Soldier Boy from The Boys. The series will premiere in 2027. Terris, who served as EP on HBO’s DTF St. Louis, is under an overall deal at MGM.
John Sandford is the pseudonym for the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist John Camp.
