Filmlance is producing for SVT My Mother, the second installment in Karin Smirnoff’s bestselling Janna Kippo saga that begins production next spring.
The premium Nordic thriller, set in northern Sweden, follows as Jana (Amanda Jansson) and her brother Bror (Rasmus Johansson) return to Kukkojärvi to bury their mother. The commission follows the launch of the first installment, My Brother, on SVT over Christmas 2025. Sanna Lenken serves as head writer alongside Maria Karlsson and will direct the series. NRK, DR, Yle, RÚV and regional film fund Filmpool Nord are also on board.
Georgie Mathew, CEO of Filmlance, said: “The success of My Brother is a testament to the vision of our producer Anna Wallmark, director and head writer Sanna Lenken, the talented cast and the wider team who brought Karin Smirnoff’s emotionally challenging novel to screen. Returning to the world of Janna Kippo with SVT and our Nordic partners allows us to continue a story audiences truly connected with and build on the artistic ambition that brought it to life.”
Lenken added, “I feel a strong desire to continue exploring the world of the Kippos. Season two features characters whose lives and relationships become only more fascinating, exciting, and intense, the deeper we delve into them. The new Norrland village of Kukkojärvi, where the story unfolds, provides a setting that is beautiful, brutal, and raw.”
