Poland’s ATM Grupa to Adapt Bestselling Novel Hell Is Empty

ATM Grupa in Poland has signed on to adapt Remigiusz Mróz’s bestselling novel Hell Is Empty, the first in his “Report” series of thrillers set in the world of investigative journalism.

Hell Is Empty is being developed as a six-episode crime thriller about the disappearance of a young woman, set against the media landscape. ATM Grupa is collaborating with Mróz and producer Anna Nagler, who previously worked with the production company on The Woods.

“Remigiusz Mróz is undeniably one of the strongest author brands on the Polish market today,” said Urszula Piasecka, VP of ATM Grupa. “We decided to reach for Hell Is Empty because it is an outstanding property with strong adaptation potential—emotionally intense and highly relevant, as it raises questions about the limits of media responsibility and whether truth still carries real value in the age of disinformation. I am very pleased that we will be working directly with the author, and the project is already being developed by creative producer Anna Nagler, whose career includes work with HBO and Netflix.”

“For a long time, I dreamed of seeing one of my books adapted to the screen at a level comparable to productions such as The Woods or Hold Tight, based on Harlan Coben’s novels,” Mróz said. “I was waiting for the right story—one that would truly work on screen— but above all for the right partner, capable of approaching the project with genuine international ambition. Today, I know that it would be hard to imagine a better combination than the Report series and ATM Grupa. I believe that together we can create something that will leave a lasting mark on Polish television—and beyond.”

Nagler added: “We see this project as a true page-turner in series form—one that pulls viewers straight into a game of pressure, manipulation and moral choices. It is a story about a world where journalistic intervention can be both an act of courage and a dangerous transgression. The series combines genre intensity, with a very contemporary and unsettling social commentary. It is a dynamic crime thriller built on a strong narrative and escalating tension, yet aimed at a broad audience. Its pace and form go hand in hand with themes that directly touch our everyday reality. At its core, the series asks fundamental questions about media responsibility, the power of storytelling, and whether, in an era of disinformation and rumours, truth can still make a difference.”

Mróz’s books have sold over 11 million copies worldwide.
