Warp Films Names New MD

Adolescence producer Warp Films has named Peter Balm as managing director, a role in which he will lead commercial strategy and operations for the company.

Balm will work with CEO Mark Herbert, COO and CFO Niall Shamma, and CCO Emily Feller, to support the outfit’s expansion across film and TV, within the U.K. and internationally.

“Peter has played a hugely important role in Warp’s growth over the last decade and this appointment feels like a natural evolution for both him and the company,” Herbert said. “He combines real commercial instinct with a deep understanding of who we are creatively. Warp has always been driven by bold storytelling and brilliant creative talent, but we’ve also worked hard to build a sustainable and ambitious business around that, rooted in Sheffield. Peter has been central to that journey and I’m excited to see him lead the company forward alongside the wider team.”

Peter Balm added, “Warp is a genuinely special company, and it’s been such a privilege to be part of its growth over the past 14 years. We’re entering a hugely exciting period: expanding our slate and partnerships, growing our film ambitions, and continuing to back distinctive voices across television and film. I’m hugely proud to step into this role to continue building on everything Warp represents under Mark’s vision and leadership, working closely with Niall and Emily. I’m passionate about continuing to build a sustainable and agile business that supports our fantastic team and facilitates the brilliant creative talent we work with. We have big ambitions for the future, and I’m incredibly excited for what lies ahead.”

Balm is relocating to Warp Films’ Sheffield home base for the new post.
