ARD & ZDF Retain Rights to German Women’s National Football Matches

ARD and ZDF have extended a pact with the DFB for the rights to carry the German women’s national football team’s matches until 2031.

SportA, the joint sports rights agency of ARD and ZDF, reached the agreement with the DFB (German Football Association) for exclusive media rights to all women’s international matches until 2031. The deal covers German matches in the UEFA Women’s Nations League as well as the qualifying and preparation matches for UEFA EURO 2029 and the FIFA World Cup 2031.

ZDF editor-in-chief Bettina Schausten said, “The extension of the agreement is an important signal for women’s football in Germany. Viewers can look forward to attractive matches—presented by strong public broadcasting partners with the usual high journalistic quality.”

Christine Strobl, ARD program director, aadded, “ARD and ZDF continue to stand by women’s football in Germany, and with the extension of our agreement with the DFB, we are making a clear statement of this. We are very pleased to be able to continue showing the German women’s football team live and comprehensively on ARD, in the ARD Mediathek, on radio and in all other ARD and Sportschau offerings.”
