NHK Names New President

Tatsuhiko Inoue has been named as the new president of Japanese pubcaster NHK, succeeding Nobuo Inaba, whose term ends on January 24, 2026.

Inoue is currently VP at NHK. He begins his three-year term on January 25, 2026. A veteran of the pubcaster, he joined in 1980 as a news reporter, rising up the ranks to become head of political news, controller of editing in the news department and then director of programming in 2011, in the aftermath of the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami. In 2014, he joined NHK’s executive board and was named senior director, helping to shape the organization’s strategy. In 2016, he began a six-year term as president and CEO of NHK I-Tech and B-SAT. Inoue became EVP of NHK in 2023. He is the first NHK official to serve as president since 2005; since then, all presidents have been external hires.

“Even as social conditions and the media landscape undergo profound changes, NHK remains steadfast in its mission to deliver accurate information and provide high-quality, enriching content,” Inoue said. “At the same time, the challenges before us are clear: further adapting to the digital era, expanding our international presence, fostering the next generation of talent, and ensuring the sustainability of reception fee revenues. I regard the management team as a single, united force, and together with the entire NHK Group, we will confront these challenges with determination and collective strength.”
