Espresso Media International has secured the international distribution rights to the feature doc Tough Old Broads from Canadian filmmaker Stacey Tenenbaum.
Produced by Tenenbaum and her H2L Productions outfit, the film features three changemakers: Kathrine Switzer, the first woman to officially run the Boston Marathon; Nobel Peace Prize nominee and Inuit climate justice advocate Siila Watt-Cloutier; and Sharon Farmer, the first woman and first person of color to serve as director of White House photography.
“The title made us smile, but the women made us sit up and pay attention,” said David Hooper, MD at Espresso Media International. “Kathrine, Siila and Sharon are not looking back from the sidelines. They are still challenging the world, and still causing exactly the right kind of trouble. That energy travels, and we believe audiences everywhere will respond to it.”
“I made this film to share the wisdom and experience of older women with a new generation and to inspire all people to remain vital and outspoken as they age,” said Tenenbaum. “I’m thrilled that Espresso Media will now help bring these women and their remarkable stories to audiences around the world.”
The film is currently streaming on the Yes streaming platform in Canada. It was funded by YES TV, the Canada Media Fund, TELUS and SODEC. Noble Arts holds the theatrical rights in Quebec, and Northern Banner Releasing holds the remaining Canadian theatrical rights.
