PBS’s NOVA and ARTE are on board for a new Blink Films hour-long documentary about a mysterious ship graveyard in Ukraine, with PBS Distribution previewing the title, which has presold to SBS, at MIPCOM.
Ghost Ship Mystery follows a team of archaeologists working in Ukraine’s war zone to uncover a mysterious ship graveyard on Khortytsia Island on Ukraine’s Dnipro River.
“I like to think of NOVA’s archaeology films as detective stories—where scientists unearth clues that tell a story about the past,” said Chris Schmidt, co-EP. “But it’s not often that the emerging story not only resonates so powerfully with events on the ground today, but also reveals how the deep history of a place can continue to shape the lives of people living hundreds of years later.”
Dan Chambers, creative director at Blink Films and joint EP, added, “With brand new discoveries, forensic analysis, and explosive experiments while warplanes fly overhead and with the sound of shelling in the distance, Ghost Ship Mystery is television archaeology like never before. We’re thrilled to be working with NOVA/GBH for PBS, ARTE, and SBS to be making this film.”
