Serial Maven Studios has shored up the international distribution rights to The Dunblane Tapes, a 90-minute feature doc commissioned by Channel 4 from Candour Productions.
Set to be presented at Sunny Side of the Doc, the film explores the aftermath of the 1996 Dunblane school shooting. Sixteen kids and one teacher were killed by a gunman at the Scottish primary school. Bereaved parent John Crozier began chronicling the grassroots campaign targeting private ownership of handguns following the tragedy. The doc will feature some of that never-before-seen footage.
“The Dunblane Tapes is a profoundly human story about grief, resilience, and the power of collective action in the face of unimaginable loss,” said Solange Attwood, CEO of Serial Maven Studios. “While the events at the heart of the film are rooted in the U.K., its themes resonate far beyond one country or one tragedy. At Serial Maven Studios, we are focused on partnering with premium producers and distinctive, authored filmmakers whose work brings both emotional depth and cultural relevance to international audiences. Anna Hall and the Candour team have crafted an incredibly intimate and important documentary, and we’re proud to help bring it to buyers and audiences around the world.”
“It has been such a privilege to work with this incredible archive and the people in Dunblane who decided that such an horrific tragedy should never happen again,” said Anna Hall, founder and chief creative officer at Candour Productions “John’s archive is so candid: at times very funny, at times utterly heartbreaking, and to have a window into this grief and determination 30 years on is truly remarkable. The Dunblane Tapes is one of those opportunities that come along for a film-maker once in a lifetime, and we are so proud to have shown how these remarkable people changed the lives of everyone in the U.K. for the better. And we hope that by bringing this film to a wider global audience we can inspire other countries to do the same.”
