Storyville on BBC Four and BBC iPlayer has added six new films to its lineup for the fall and into winter 2027, and is introducing a new shorts strand with films of between 10 and 40 minutes.
Nevine Mabro, head of BBC Storyville, said the new season “epitomizes our commitment to bring bold, distinctive documentaries to our audience—films that offer fresh perspectives on extraordinary lives, as well as on the big cultural and political issues shaping our world. From acclaimed directors to new voices, this season will, for the first time, include cinematic short documentaries. I am also excited to give a sneak preview of a couple of stunning Storyville feature documentaries that will be airing in the new year.”
The upcoming slate includes Ask E. Jean, a Flora Films, Impact Partners and Red 50 production; the acquired A Want in Her from Inland Films, Snowstorm Productions, and Basalt Films; Black is Beautiful: The Kwame Brathwaite Story, a Misfits Entertainment (a Mediawan company) and Wayfarer Studios production; Manhood from World of Wonder, Outerboro and Madhouse; and The Last Spy, a Film Manufacturers Inc. and KJ Entertainment production.
The new Storyville Short strand launches with Allies in Exile, a 40-minute doc from Grain Media, co-produced by AMC Production and Counterpoints Productions, presented by The New Yorker Documentary.
The 2027 lineup includes One in a Million, a BBC Storyville, Frontline Features and Keo Films co-production; and Once Upon a Time in Harlem, a William Greaves Productions film.
