Passion Distribution has landed a commission for Virgin Island at TV 2 Denmark, with Banijay Entertainment’s Nordisk Film TV making the local version of the social-experiment format that originated on Channel 4.
The format has been adapted by Dutch public broadcaster BNNVARA for the Netherlands (produced by Concept Street) and RTL+ for Germany (produced by RTL Studios). Created by Double Act, it has run for two seasons on Channel 4, faring particularly well among the 16 to 34 set.
Marianne Bjørn, format manager at TV 2 Denmark, said, “Virgin Island is a bold and original format that explores intimacy and relationships in a way that feels both relevant and deeply human. The format combines emotional storytelling with a subject that resonates with many people today, while offering a fresh perspective on connection and vulnerability. We’re excited to bring this important and engaging conversation to Danish audiences together with Nordisk Film TV.”
Ulrik Jorgensen, MD at Nordisk Film TV, added, “Virgin Island has already garnered significant interest internationally, and after seeing the impact with audiences, we knew we wanted to bring the format to Denmark. It tackles a subject so rarely explored on television, and we hope audiences strongly connect with the authenticity of each participant’s journey.”
Rob Davis, EP from Double Act, added, “The format’s international success shows just how universal the issues of intimacy and connection are for young people today. I’m proud that Virgin Island can explore these subjects with warmth, humor and honesty, while still delivering compelling television.”
Nick Tanner, director of sales and co-productions at Passion Distribution, commented, “We are thrilled to be working with the teams at Nordisk Film TV and TV 2 Denmark to bring the first Scandinavian version of Virgin Island to life! As the format’s growth around the world accelerates, the Danish version will be a rollercoaster of emotions, revelations, and ‘can’t-look-away entertainment!’”
