Production is underway on the Australian-Canadian-Singaporean animated co-production It’s Andrew for ABC and CBC.
The Pirate Size Productions, Mainframe Studios and Infinite Studios preschool show was commissioned by the ABC and CBC, in association with Radio-Canada, with major production investment from ABC and Screen Australia. It is financed with support from the Canada Media Fund (CMF) and Mainframe Distribution.
The show landed in Australia this summer and has logged more than 20 million viewing minutes on ABC iview alone.
“This original series explores themes of belonging, confidence and self-discovery with warmth, humor and heart,” said Melinda Wearne, ABC’s head of children and family.
Dan Nixon and Alyssa Smedley, co-creators at Pirate Size Productions, added, “Shows like It’s Andrew! matter now more than ever. Preschoolers need warm and relatable stories that help them make sense of their world. We can’t wait for kids to keep discovering It’s Andrew! and exploring the Hornsby Downs world.”
Louise Gough, Screen Australia’s director of narrative content, added, “The success of It’s Andrew demonstrates the power of children’s stories that genuinely connect with young audiences. Through Andrew’s optimism, creativity and self-confidence, the series encourages children to embrace what makes them unique. We congratulate the creative team on creating such a joyful and imaginative series and look forward to seeing Andrew’s adventures continue in season two.”
Marie McCann, senior director of children’s content at CBC Kids, noted, “Highlighting the importance of kindness and inclusion, the first season of It’s Andrew! resonated with young audiences around the world. We’re excited to welcome Canadian families back to Hornsby Downs for another season of fun, as Andrew the rhino and his unicorn friends celebrate friendship, imagination and the power that comes from being true to yourself.”
Christiane Asselin, executive director, streaming services, youth programming and digital sports at Radio-Canada, commented, “It’s Andrew! perfectly captures our values of inclusiveness and open-mindedness. Season two will continue to spark toddlers’ creativity and foster their emotional intelligence through stories that celebrate what makes everyone unique. This success is also a testament to the incredible partnership between Australia and Canada in delivering high-quality, inspiring programming to young audiences.”
