Cathal Gaffney is stepping down from Brown Bag Films, the Irish animation company he co-founded with Darragh O’Connell in 1994.
The company is now part of 9 Story Media Group, a division of Scholastic. He will remain with the company until October 2.
“This is not an easy announcement because Brown Bag Films and 9 Story Media Group have been such a huge part of my life for the last 32 years, but I believe my time at Brown Bag has come to a natural end,” said Gaffney in a LinkedIn post. “One of the responsibilities of a founder is knowing when to step forward and when to step back. Brown Bag will thrive without me, and I will remain its biggest supporter for decades to come.”
Gaffney added, “The company is in excellent hands, with exceptional creative and business leaders, enormously talented teams and the continued support of the brilliant team at Scholastic. Brown Bag is ready for its next adventure, and I’m excited to see where the next chapter takes the studio, and eventually where mine takes me.”
