ITV Boards Police Procedural Winter

ITV has commissioned a six-part police procedural from Eagle Eye Drama starring Richard Armitage and Annabel Scholey.

Winter, which is being co-produced with PBS’s MASTERPIECE, will be repped by ITV Studios. Dries Vos and Kaat Beels will direct, with Matt Baker producing the series. Jo McGrath and Walter Iuzzolino will executive produce the series on behalf of Eagle Eye Drama, a part of ITV Studios. The series is based on Balthazar, created by Clothilde Jamin and Clélia Constantine and produced by Beaubourg Stories. The show will be filmed in Bristol and Belgium early next year.

Callum Dziedzic, drama commissioner at ITV, noted, “Richard brings such soulful power to Winter, anchoring David and Mark’s scripts, which masterfully blend the science, mystery and emotion audiences love in forensic shows. I know Walter and his team will bring it to life with their trademark beauty, making this a wholly original addition to the genre.”

Susanne Simpson, MASTERPIECE’s head of scripted content and executive producer, added. “Winter has the unique combination of compelling mysteries and human drama that our American audience craves. I am so pleased to bring this series to MASTERPIECE.”

Eagle Eye’s McGrath, chief creative officer, and Iuzzolino, CEO, added:

“We are delighted to be working with an exceptionally talented cast like Richard Armitage and Annabel Scholey to bring Winter to life for ITV and MASTERPIECE. The world of forensic pathology gives us the opportunity to create a different visual grammar for the show, and in the hands of two inspiring directors such as Dries Vos and Kaat Beels we know that the world of Ethan Winter will turn into a stylish and compelling TV series.”
