Netflix Touts “More Ambitious” Chinese-Language Slate

Highlighting a growing base for Chinese-language originals, Netflix has showcased a “richer, more ambitious” lineup for this year.

Over the past year, The Resurrected and I Am Married… But! featured in the top ten rankings on the platform across the region, while Born for the Spotlight landed top honors at the Golden Bell Awards and a selection at the Busan International Film Festival.

The 2026 lineup leans into “bolder concepts and grittier storytelling that push genre and emotional boundaries,” the platform says.

“Chinese-language storytelling is singular in its vibrancy, emotional depth, and willingness to explore complex, darker human truths,” said Maya Huang, head of Chinese-language content at Netflix. “We’re especially excited by stories that take creative risks and immerse audiences in extraordinary worlds and experiences. Our goal is to uplift local storytelling while partnering with Taiwan’s creative community to expand access to support, training, and resources.”

The lineup of scripted runs across a range of genres and includes Million-Follower Detective, headlined by Hong Kong action star Ekin Cheng in his first Netflix series; Agent from Above, an action-fantasy adapted from the first book of the popular novel series The Oracle Comes by Taiwanese author Teensy; Confessions, a psychological thriller; The Fixers, an action comedy; and the character-driven drama Miracles of the ER.

Currently in production are How to Survive Med School, written and directed by Giddens Ko and Pacify, a supernatural sci-fi action thriller.

“As the industry evolves, our focus remains consistent: long-term commitment, creative excellence, and a platform where Chinese-language stories can flourish locally and reach audiences worldwide,” said Huang. “Our ambition is to be the destination for Chinese-language entertainment that takes audiences into unexpected worlds and bold adventures that go beyond the everyday.”
