Nippon TV continues to expand its scripted formats business, inking a Korean remake deal for Life’s Punchline with Studio Dragon, the second adaptation for the series.
The original ten-part series was a hit for Nippon TV, scoring almost 14 million total views on VOD within ten weeks of its release. It is being remade in Hong Kong with ViuTV.
Keisuke Miyata, sales and licensing at Nippon TV, remarked, “I am very pleased that this acclaimed series in Japan is being adapted in Korea by Studio Dragon, a world-renowned drama production company. This story is for anyone who has ever chased a dream, supported someone from the shadows, or compared their own life to the success of others, and the series utilizes a unique storytelling technique, weaving actual comedy skits into the drama to deliver unexpected surprises and laughter, leading to pathos. I believe these universal emotions will deeply resonate with Korean viewers, and the Korean version will captivate audiences around the world.”
Nippon TV previously worked with Studio Dragon for a Korean adaptation of Mother on tvN in 2018. The company is in Lille this week, showcasing its scripted formats and drama slate at Series Mania Forum.
