Sphere Abacus is on board for the international distribution rights to The Death of Sherlock Holmes, an English-language period drama from Silver Reel (Fallen) for Sky, SRF, and ARD Degeto.
Premiering next year with a cast that includes Rafe Spall and Deleila Piasko, the series explores the missing chapter in the life of the world’s most famous detective. It is created by Claudia Bluemhuber, André Küttel, and Pierre Monnard and written by Küttel and Simone Schmid.
Arthur Conan Doyle’s iconic character disappeared in 1891, seemingly felled by Professor Moriarty, and returned in 1894. Doyle left that chapter untold.
The series is a Swiss-German-Belgian co-production with Sky Switzerland, SRF, ARD Degeto, and Umedia. Sky will broadcast the series exclusively in the U.K. and Ireland and stream it in Switzerland and Germany. SRF has broadcast rights in Switzerland, with the German rights held by ARD Degeto. It was supported by FFF Bayern and the IDM Film Commission.
Jonathan Ford, MD of Sphere Abacus, said, “Audiences continue to be enthralled by the exploits of Sherlock Holmes. This new iteration, created by our friends at Silver Reel and recounting Holmes’ completely unknown adventures during a mysterious and pivotal moment in Holmes’ life, is sure to delight viewers around the world.”
