Sherlock & Daughter has notched up a raft of international deals for Starlings and its international distribution partners following the show’s U.S. success on The CW and HBO Max, including a U.K. and Irish launch on HBO Max this month.
The eight-part series also fared well for SBS in Australia, as well as for presale partners NRK Norway, SVT Sweden, DR Denmark, YLE Finland, RUV Iceland and Amediateka CIS. New deals have now been signed with AB1 France, Tivibu Turkey, Disney Bulgaria/Balkans, RTP Portugal, Viasat Poland, RTS Switzerland, Sky Italy, Crave/Bell Canada, Magenta TV Germany, Streamz Belgium, Nova Greece, Canal+ Autriche Austria/Switzerland, YES Israel and Ceska TV Czech Republic. Palatin Media distributes the show as exclusive sales agent in Germany, Austria and German-speaking Europe, with Federation Studios overseeing international distribution rights outside of these territories.
The series is created, written, and executive produced by Brendan Foley, with James Duff as showrunner.
High Drama: The Art of International Co-Pros with Brendan Foley
“It’s an honor to bring a show that has become such an international hit home to HBO Max in the U.K. and Ireland—both the home of its setting and where it was made in Dublin and London by a fantastic cast and crew, led by mighty performances from David Thewlis, Dougray Scott and Blu Hunt,” Foley said. “In these bumpy times, we’re very proud it has appealed so widely across generations worldwide, from new younger followers to veteran fans of the world’s greatest detective.”
Starlings CEO Karine Martin added, “Sherlock Holmes may belong to London, but it took a global audience to make this homecoming truly extraordinary. We’re thrilled to bring Sherlock & Daughter back to the streets that inspired the legend—and to give viewers throughout the U.K. and Ireland a fresh mystery to call their own.”
The series hails from Starlings U.K. affiliate Albion Television and co-production partner StoryFirst, together with financiers Krempelwood and MBM3.
