The Power of AI in Hyperlocal Streaming: A Stage Case Study

Using an AI-native production strategy that has cut costs by a whopping 90%, Stage, a D2C streaming platform built for India’s regional dialects, has scaled rapidly from one market to six, with plans to reach 14 by March 2027, according to a new case study released by Media Partners Asia (MPA).

Stage: A Road Less Traveled—The Hyperlocal Playbook of an AI-Native Platform was released in connection with the platform’s proposed $25 million Series C funding round. It explores the economics of the service, which started in Haryana and is now in six dialect markets.

Targeting a slice of an Indian online video market that is projected to top $8.4 billion by 2030, the platform caters to underserved dialects outside Hindi, having released more than 200 Haryanvi films since 2019. Around 80% of subscribers live in urban centers, and 54% hold no other OTT subscription. Revenues have scaled from $2.5 million in 2024 to $16 million in 2026. Customer acquisition costs have dropped by 40 percent in the last year. Haryana now accounts for 46% of revenues, down from 81%, as the platform has scaled up its Rajasthani and Bhojpuri bases.

AI has been key for the company, reducing production costs for a 100-minute film from $42,000 to $4,200 and cutting the timeline from 14 to 16 weeks to two weeks. Dubbing costs have dropped from $2,100 per title to $20, enabling the service to launch a new title every 45 days.

Stage’s Series C funding round will power additional launches—Punjabi, Assamese, Odia, Nepali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam—AI-led expansion
of the content library and Stage Studio, the company’s AI-native production system.

MPA has two subscriber and revenue projections for the platform: 4.1 million and $79 million, or 5.5 million and $111 million by 2030. Either way, the service is on track to be profitable in fiscal 2029 and self-funding by fiscal 2030. The risks are an eight-market simultaneous launch, the level of engagement on AI content, the reliance on Meta and Google for customer acquisition, and India’s recurring-payments environment.

“Stage is proving that India’s next streaming opportunity is not simply regional language, but cultural depth,” said Mihir Shah, VP of MPA. “It has built a differentiated position by owning the customer, building deep local creative networks, and using AI to fundamentally reset the economics of content production. That makes previously uneconomic dialect markets investable. The next question is whether Stage can convert that advantage into sustainably growing audience nationwide.”
