BBC Creator Lab has unveiled a new initiative for digital and social content creators around the upcoming RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
The legendary flower show airs on the British pubcaster every year from the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London. In collaboration with TikTok and the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), BBC Creator Lab is looking for talented social creators who can engage young audiences around gardening, plants, nature, and horticulture. Up to 13 individuals will be selected to participate in a two-day BBC Creator Lab and will have exclusive access to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. They will also have the opportunity to generate content at RHS Gardens. Plus, they can benefit from training, development, and up-skilling from teams at both the BBC and TikTok. Creators will also be able to pitch ideas to the BBC commissioning, production, and RHS teams.
Fiona Campbell, interim director of unscripted at the BBC, said. “BBC Creator Lab remains a key part of how we identify and support new digital talent for U.K. audiences. Gardening and horticulture are subjects that connect people to nature, wellbeing and creativity, and this scheme will help us work with creators who can bring those stories to life in modern, engaging ways.”
Dominic Burns, head of operations at TikTok in the U.K., Ireland, and Nordics, said, “BBC Creator Lab is a unique initiative that supports and celebrates the next generation of digital talent, and we are delighted to continue our collaboration. Every day, millions of people come to TikTok to discover and learn something new, and over the past year, we have seen home gardeners, flower enthusiasts, and budding horticulturalists thrive on TikTok, sharing their passion for nature with a global community. BBC Creator Lab will provide an exciting opportunity for creators to turn that creativity into a career in television, and we cannot wait to watch them grow!”
Clare Matterson CBE, RHS Director General added, “RHS Chelsea is the world’s greatest and most famous gardening event and we’re really excited to offer these creators exclusive access to share experiences and stories about this incredible horticultural extravaganza, bringing it to life in ways that excite audiences to want to get their own hands dirty or simply to discover how plants, flowers, gardens all make life more joyful.”
