72 Films’ The Michael Jackson Story has landed a slew of deals across Europe and the Asia-Pacific, courtesy of Fremantle.
Delivering rare archive material and interviews with those closest to him, the doc aims to be the definitive story of the controversial pop icon. It was commissioned by the BBC for broadcast on BBC Two and iPlayer next week as Michael Jackson: An American Tragedy.
Fremantle has licensed the doc to France TV (France), NPO Netherlands (The Netherlands), Nine Network (Australia), Sky TV (New Zealand & Oceania), Sky Italia (Italy), Asharq (Middle East), Vodafone Greece (Greece), Now TV (Hong Kong), SVT (Sweden), DR (Denmark), Yle (Finland) and VRT (Belgium).
“We’re excited to be partnering with such an exceptional group of global broadcasters to introduce The Michael Jackson Story to the world,” said Mark Reynolds, Fremantle’s global head of documentaries and factual. “It’s a complex tale of fame, family, and legacy, exploring the extraordinary rise of the King of Pop and the controversies that surrounded him later in life. The team at 72 Films has approached this story with remarkable insight and care, and offers audiences a unique glimpse into moments of Jackson’s life that are rarely shared.”
