BBC Studios’ Nation’s Dumbest has secured new adaptation deals in Spain and Lithuania, bringing the comedy entertainment format to ten territories, with further deals expected in the coming months.
In Spain, Antena 3 has commissioned a local version from BBC Studios-owned Brutal Media. TV3 Studios is producing the version for TV3 Lithuania. The format was created by Montreux Film and Fjernsyn in Norway and has become BBC Studios’ fastest-growing comedy entertainment format. It was recently licensed in Hungary and Denmark.
The new deals follow the success of the American take, FOX’s biggest summer entertainment debut in four years. The format has also performed well in France and Sweden.
Sumi Connock, EVP of the global creative network and formats at BBC Studios, noted, “Reaching our tenth territory sale is a fantastic milestone for Nation’s Dumbest. It’s a brilliant example of how a bold, yet warm-hearted, local idea can travel and become a truly international success story. Nation’s Dumbest taps into something universal: audiences everywhere love seeing celebrities let their guard down, laugh at themselves, and embrace the unexpected. It’s a simple, highly scalable format that continues to resonate with broadcasters around the world, and we’re delighted to see it building such strong international momentum.”
