ARTE, Channel 4, SBS and NOVA are on board Rain Bombs, a one-off premium science special available from PBS Distribution.
PBS Distribution secured the co-pro funding for the doc, which investigates deadly downbursts, a weather phenomenon linked to climate change. Blink Films produces the special.
“We are excited to be exploring the science behind this rising but little-known phenomenon,” said Helene Ganichaud, head of specialist factual and natural history at ARTE.
“It’s rare to find such an extraordinary phenomenon that hasn’t already been explored in depth by television,” said Dan Chambers, creative director at Blink Films. “The more we’ve looked into the science of how they occur and the damage they can do, the more intriguing they become. And because of global warming, they’re getting more extreme.”
“We’re proud to bring this important story to audiences worldwide and collaborate with partners who understand the urgency and global relevance of a story like Rain Bombs,” said Eniela Bella, director of co-production finance sales at PBS Distribution.
