SPNI Shifts Game Show & Reality Strategy

Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) is looking to drive co-viewing with a new strategy for its reality and game show format lineup.

SPNI says it is now prioritizing participation-led formats that encourage appointment viewing and shared experiences. It utilized that strategy if bringing Wheel of Fortune to its audiences, hosted by Akshay Kumar and designed for ful family viewing. The company has long deployed a similar approach in Kaun Banega Crorepati, the local version of Millionaire.

Makarand Palekar, head of linear distribution at Sony Pictures Networks India, noted, “The future of linear television depends on creating moments that audiences choose to watch together. When formats evolve while retaining the emotional core, they connect across generations. Interactivity, cultural relevance, and forward momentum are critical to attracting younger viewers while continuing to serve family audiences who have grown up with these shows.”
