Atresmedia has slated a new season of The Wheel, marking the return of the Warner Bros. International Television Production format to the Spanish market.
After a three-year gap, the format returns with a new host, Arturo Valls. It first launched in Spain in 2023 as El círculo de los famosos. The format was first created by Hungry McBear and launched on BBC One in the U.K. in 2020, running now for six seasons.
The format has landed remakes in Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, France, and the U.S.
Andrew Zein, EVP for creative format development and sales at WBITVP, noted, “The Wheel is exactly the kind of format that continues to build with each new market and each new season. Seemingly simple at its core, it delivers real scale and impact on screen. Its performance in the U.K. shows the strength of the brand as a returning primetime title, and this reboot in Spain demonstrates how effectively it can be refreshed for new audiences. With Arturo Valls bringing a new energy to the show, we see this as another strong step in the format’s ongoing international journey.”
Carmen Ferreiro, head of entertainment at Atresmedia, added: “For Atresmedia, the renewal of The Wheel represents a continued commitment to a highly successful international format that has proven its capacity to adapt and grow in every market. It is a program that, starting from a seemingly simple premise, delivers a strong on-screen spectacle and connects directly with prime-time audiences. This new chapter in Spain, with Arturo Valls at the helm, strengthens our commitment to large-scale, distinctive entertainment with long-term potential, a format capable of evolving and continuing to attract new viewers season after season.”
