DeAPlaneta Entertainment is set to manage the licensing rights for Grendizer in select markets, including Spain, the U.S., and LatAm, expanding the reach of the classic mecha series created by Go Nagai in 1975 as part of the Mazinger Z universe, via a deal with Mangouste Anim.
The move amplifies DeAPlaneta’s positioning in the “kidult” market, targeting older fans of cult classic anime brand, known as Goldrake in Italy and Goldorak in France. DeAPlaneta Entertainment will manage the licensing rights in Spain, Latin America, North America, Greece, Italy, CIS, and German-, French-, and Portuguese-speaking territories.
In addition, DeAPlaneta Entertainment will manage the media and consumer products strategy for Grendizer U, a reboot that introduces the character to a new generation. DeAPlaneta Entertainment will manage broadcast rights for Grendizer U in Spain, LatAm, North America (including Mexico, the United States, and English-speaking Canada), CIS, as well as in Portuguese-speaking countries and Greece. It will coordinate merchandising licenses across 118 products in those markets, plus German-and French-speaking countries and Italy.
This is DeAPlaneta Entertainment’s first alliance with Mangouste Anim.
Carlos Biern, content and media sales director at DeAPlaneta Kids & Family, noted, “Grendizer U goes beyond nostalgia. The spectacular production design of this reboot finally updates the characters of a true milestone of anime to today’s new digital generations”.
Antonella Ceraso, international consumer products director at DeAPlaneta Entertainment, added, “Grendizer is managing to reach both young audiences and those who discovered the character through its classic incarnation. These moments of shared experience are incredibly valuable to us and give us the opportunity to work with this IP in a creative and cross-disciplinary way with endless possibilities.”
“Grendizer is not just a cult franchise: it is a work of cultural transmission, carried forward since 1975 by generations of fans who are now the parents of new generations,” said Caroline Cornot, CEO of Mangouste Anim. “The series paved the way for manga in Europe and created the manga generation; it remains today a timeless pillar of pop culture. Grendizer U builds on a unique legacy, bridging the emotion of the classic Grendizer with modern animation capable of captivating new generations. Record-breaking sales, continuous media presence, and unwavering popularity for over forty years: Grendizer is a cultural brand with lasting international impact.”
