Tulipop has unveiled Tulipop: Island Adventures, a new preschool series for its flagship brand, along with a 30-minute Halloween special.
The Icelandic animation studio heads to MIPJunior and MIPCOM with Tulipop: Island Adventures and the new special Pumpkin Pip, which premieres in Icelandic cinemas this October.
Tulipop: Island Adventures has received development support from Screen Scotland, with Scottish animation studio 2D Workshop collaborating on the project.
Island Adventures is moving into visual development, storyboarding and pre-production, exploring the emotional lives of its young characters in greater depth. It follows the studio’s most extensive development program to date, with a writers’ room, research, educational and social-emotional consultation, and a new series bible.
Signý Kolbeinsdóttir, creator and co-founder of Tulipop, said, “Island Adventures allows us to explore new relationships, introduce bigger challenges and reveal new sides to our characters, while retaining the humor, warmth and playful weirdness at the heart of Tulipop.”
Helga Árnadóttir, CEO and co-founder of Tulipop, added: “This is our most ambitious development process to date. It has enabled us to push Tulipop further creatively while remaining true to the characters and world, and we are excited to share the new series with international partners in Cannes.”
The new show will be directed by Selina Wagner, with Martha MacDiarmid leading the writing team. Claire Casswell is supporting the series’ educational and social-emotional framework.
“Tulipop trusts its young audience and explores the complexities of childhood without ever feeling preachy,” said Casswell. “Its combination of humor, emotional depth and a magical world makes it genuinely distinctive within the preschool landscape.”
The brand has almost 60 million views on YouTube. Created by Kolbeinsdóttir, it includes the Tulipop Tales series, a range of specials, and an L&M program through a partnership with Pogo Group.
