The Spanish audiovisual sector has reached unprecedented levels of production, according to Gloria Saló, director of production and content consulting at GECA.
Last year, production in Spain across free-to-air, DTT channels, and the leading regional broadcasters hit almost 244,000 hours of television, marking a significant recovery for the industry following the declines of 2024.

In terms of production volume, the entertainment sector recorded 278 titles premiering in 2025, while scripted series increased from 66 titles in 2024 to 73 in 2025. Saló also clarified that the definition of entertainment is broad: “We include talent shows, reality shows, game shows, factual, docuseries, and documentaries.”
Saló also highlighted the growing separation between content produced for platforms and content created for free-to-air television, with the bulk of scripted content headed to the streamers.
Within scripted, drama remains the dominant genre, Saló stated, noting that it represents 54% of productions, largely in the suspense, mystery, and thriller genres. In nonscripted, true crime saw gains in 2025, plus game and talent shows adapted from international formats.
Spanish production has been boosted significantly by the country’s generous soft money system and the arrival of the SVOD platforms
