Omdia: LatAm Media Market Set for 10.7% Growth This Year

The Latin American media industry is expected to generate revenues of $65 billion this year, a 10.7% year-on-year gain, according to new research from Omdia.

The statistics were presented by Maria Rua Aguete, head of media and entertainment at Omdia, at Content Americas. They show LatAm growth outpacing the U.S., which will see a 6.9% growth rate this year to reach $453 billion. Online video, advertising, and microdramas are leading LatAm’s gains.

“From the rise of FAST to the integration of microdramas into platforms like ViX, Latin America is showcasing how innovation can drive engagement and growth in the global media landscape,” said Rua Aguete.

Gains are being led by Brazil—now the third-largest FAST market globally at $152 million, behind the U.S. and the U.K.—and Mexico, where 53% of viewers are using FAST services.

In terms of platforms, meanwhile, Netflix leads, taking almost half of all streaming revenues, boosted by its ad-supported tier and bundling efforts.

TelevisaUnivision’s ViX has integrated microdramas into its AVOD and freemium ecosystems as the genre picks up steam in Latin America. “Microdramas are no longer a niche experiment,” said Rua Aguete. “They are becoming a core driver of mobile video engagement. What stands out is not just revenue growth, but the intensity of usage. On mobile, microdrama apps are generating more daily viewing time than the world’s biggest streaming platforms.”
