About half of all Spanish-language scripted commissions in 2025 were from subscription streamers, Ampere Analysis has found, accounting for about 23% of all non-English-language fare at the global SVODs, led by Netflix and Amazon.
In the major territories for Spanish-language content production, SVOD streamers, global and local, accounted for 54% of all commissions in Spain and 49% in LatAm (excluding Brazil). Ampere indicates that Spanish is the top choice for non-English-language content on streamers at 23%.
In 2025, Netflix and Amazon were the biggest streaming commissioners of Spanish-language scripted content, with Netflix at 43% of orders for all on-demand platforms, with Prime Video at 22%. In contrast to long-running orders at linear broadcasters, streamers are largely commissioning shorter-run series and minis.
By spend, Spain was up 15% to $3.7 billion last year, with a 19% gain projected from 2025 to 2030, Ampere says. And by genre, crime and thriller, as expected, leads, accounting for 32% of all announced scripted Spanish-language VOD commissions last year, with comedy at 21% and drama at 20%.
Meanwhile, global streamers are increasing their collaborations with established local linear players, less so on the co-pro front and more from a strategic alliance perspective. There were just seven co-commissioned Spanish-language TV shows announced in 2025, but this year saw Disney+ and RTVE agree to a landmark content-sharing deal.
Natalie Cruz, senior analyst at Ampere Analysis, remarked, “Over recent years, global subscription streamers have established a leading role in the production and distribution of Spanish-language scripted content. From hit series popular during COVID, such as Netflix’s Money Heist, to more recent hits like Amazon’s Culpa Mía and Netflix’s El Eternauta, the domestic and international popularity of Spanish-language titles has led to greater investment in Spanish-language content and has driven partnerships between local players and global streamers.”
