Indie distributor Scorpion TV has acquired the rights to Your Attention Please, a documentary feature about the battle against big tech over the negative impact of social media on kids and young adults.
Written and edited by Jack LeMa and directed by Sara Robin, it follows parents, young people, campaigners, whistleblowers and technology reformers confronting the consequences of social media networks. At the core is the story of Kristin Bride, who embarked on a campaign for social media reform after losing her son to suicide. Contributors include Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen, former US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, and Trisha Prabhu, the creator of new technology designed to combat cyberbullying.
“Your Attention Please couldn’t be arriving at a more relevant moment,” said David Cornwall, MD of Scorpion TV. “The debate has moved beyond whether social media is affecting our lives to what we are actually going to do about it. What I particularly like about the film is that it doesn’t simply diagnose the problem—it follows people who are trying to change things.”
Launching at MIPCOM, the doc is available in both feature-length and 60-minute durations.
Scorpion TV lands at MIPCOM on the heels of a slate of international deals, including Under Cover to ARTE in France; The Silence in My Heart to UR in Sweden; Return of the Big Cats to NTV in Japan; Big Cats of the Serengeti to Discovery India; Just Hands to AMI in Canada; and Atomic Rocketeer and Oppenheimer to AMC in Spain and Portugal. Further, 9/11: The Lost Tapes has been acquired by RTVE in Spain and ORF in Austria; NHK in Japan licensed Cutting the Curve; SBS Australia went for Shenzhou 13; SVT Sweden picked up A President, Europe and War; TVN Poland has taken My Five Year Plan; and PTS Taiwan has acquired Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone.
