WildBrain is refreshing its beloved Strawberry Shortcake brand in CGI for a slate of original digital content that will land on YouTube and other social platforms.
The lineup covers The Berry Best Baking Show, a 12-episode live-action/animation hybrid baking show consisting of 3- to 5-minute episodes, dropping on YouTube next month; 26 CG shorts coming to YouTube later this year; and 52 microshorts (under 15 seconds) for YouTube and other social platforms. The collection also includes mood-setting videos of 1 hour each.
The kids and family giant will be heading to New York Toy Fair next week with a slate of activities around Strawberry Shortcake. Kate Smith, WildBrain’s EVP of audience engagement, will take part in a panel on nostalgic brands with Scott Shillet, Peanuts Worldwide’s VP of global licensing; Ellie Terveen, Dr. Seuss Enterprises’ COO; and David Sprei, Penguin Ventures’ commercial director.
New licensing partnerships around the brand include a global collaboration with L.O.L. Surprise! for the L.O.L. Surprise! Loves The World of Strawberry Shortcake Tots collection. A deal with USAopoly covers Strawberry Shortcake editions of Hasbro’s MONOPOLY and CANDY LAND games.
Erin Morris, VP of strategic global franchise and retail at WildBrain, said: “Strawberry Shortcake is a true icon, beloved by generations around the world. This evolution blends the nostalgia of Strawberry’s classic bonnet-and-bloomers style with CG animation and storytelling designed to captivate both new and long-time fans across generations and geographies. As we expand the world of Strawberry Shortcake and her ‘berry besties’, we’re excited to partner with world-leading brands to sweeten the toy and games aisle with new products this year. Fans have told us they love classic Strawberry Shortcake, so we’re pleased to create joyful, fun and sweet experiences across our digital network for today’s audiences—whether they’re discovering Strawberry for the first time or reconnecting with a childhood favorite.”
The official Strawberry Shortcake YouTube channel has 2.2 million subscribers and has topped .4 billion lifetime views.
