Mattel is set to release Thomas & Friends: Railway Stories in early 2027, giving the storied IP a new look and feel.
The series will be available on YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video, and free-to-air channels globally, produced by Mattel Studios, with animation services by Brown Bag Films.
Ahead of the new series launch, Mattel has unveiled a half-hour special, Really Helpful Engines, available now on YouTube and expanding to Netflix at the end of the month. The special features the new-look Sodor from the upcoming series. Henry Golding is on board as the English-language narrator.
“For generations, Thomas & Friends has inspired children through timeless stories about friendship, teamwork and the importance of being a really helpful engine,” said Rob David, EP and SVP for animation at Mattel Studios. “With this new series and content special, we’re honoring everything families have always loved about Thomas, and we can’t wait for fans old and new to climb aboard for a new era of adventures on the Island of Sodor.”
A new product line will accompany the upcoming series; Mattel has also planned a pop-up experience for New York City next month.
